Hydrogen, a crucial component of the energy shift. For it, hydrogen must be produced, transported, and stored as efficiently as possible. The researchers are focused on material design, fixed energy system architecture, green hydrogen via photoelectrochemistry, and mobile hydrogen storage system design.

This cutting-edge research dives deep into understanding why Mg-rare earth (RE)-based alloys show exceptional strength and ductility. You will conduct ex situ/in situ nanoindentation-based experiments and gain practical expertise with sophisticated microstructural characterization tools such as EBSD, TEM, and SAXS—the ideal fusion of analytical and experimental research. Objectives:

  • The project’s main goal is to identify the atomic-scale processes that give magnesium-rare earth (RE)-based alloys their exceptional strength and ductility.
  • This will be accomplished by combining ex situ/in situ nanoindentation-based methods (micro-tensile/compression) with sophisticated microstructural characterization (EBSD, EDX, SAXS, TEM).
  • The investigation’s findings will be essential for improving current Mg-RE alloys and will set the stage for the creation of digital twins and new RE-free Mg alloy systems.

Eligibility Criteria:
